Ultra Sound Therapy

Ultrasound therapy is a part of physical therapy and also electrotherapy, all of which support pain management and the natural healing process of the body.

It is essentially a powerful mechanism which pushes cells to move via ultrasound waves, thereby making it possible for a deep massage. The sound waves have a thermal effect on the cell tissues and help set cell tissue in motion.

Ultrasound is applied directly to the skin by an applicator that is in direct contact with the patient’s skin, hence must be done with caution.

By muscle and/or tendon fiber injuries it often comes to a chaotic restructuring of the injured muscle fibers by overexertion of the otherwise parallel muscle fibers. The ultrasound waves go directly through the targeted damaged area and move the damaged fibers in the correct direction with good results.

During the ultra sound therapy the inflamed area is locally handled and while stimulates the nervous system. The duration of the therapy depends on the extent of damage and can be between 1 to 10 minutes long.
Ultra sound therapy is used by muscle injuries (Myalgia), chronic muscle and/or tendon pain, bone fractures, scarring/tissue agglutination/tension and certain jaw injuries.

The contraindications are patients treated with radiation, for blood clotting disturbances, vascular disease, skin diseases (with permission from skin doctor), acute fever, tumors and metastases, as well as patients with joint replacement made from polyethylene thermoplastic.

Ultrasound can also support and increase the results of topically applied pain and inflammation reducing medicines (i.e. Voltaren Gel, Sport Cooling gels and the like) by massaging directly onto the injured area.

Ultrasound treatments can be a simple and effective method to treat pain and other injuries. One should not hesitate to inquire about ultrasound treatment to see if it is right for you.
